Pootle – Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 May 2026

1. Who we are

Pootle Explore Ltd (Company No. 16825582) is the data controller for the Pootle app. Contact: [email protected]. This Policy works together with our Terms & Conditions.

2. What we collect

We may process:

  • account and profile details (e.g. name, email, photo)
  • routes, reviews, photos, ratings, and comments you submit
  • location data if you allow it
  • usage and device data (e.g. crashes, device type)
  • subscription status (payments are handled by Apple or Google)

3. How we use it

We use your data to run the App, show routes, manage subscriptions, improve accessibility information, enable community features, keep the service secure, and comply with the law. We rely on our contract with you, legitimate interests, legal obligation, or consent (for optional marketing) as appropriate under UK GDPR.

Public content may be visible to others and used in aggregated or derived form. Private content is used only for your account, except where the law requires otherwise.

4. Sharing and storage

We use service providers (e.g. hosting, analytics, crash reporting, subscriptions) and may share aggregated data with partners. We may also disclose data where required by law.

Some providers are outside the UK; where we do, we use appropriate safeguards (such as UK-approved transfer tools).

We keep data only as long as needed. When you delete your account we delete or anonymise personal data within a reasonable time, though anonymised route or aggregate data may be kept where removal would harm the dataset.

5. Your rights

You may ask us to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your data, or to object to processing, and you may withdraw consent where we rely on it. Contact [email protected] — we usually respond within one month. You may complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk.

6. Other information

The App is not for under-16s. We use reasonable security measures but cannot guarantee perfect security.

We may update this Policy and will give reasonable notice of material changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
